Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has been officially reprimanded by the IPL Governing Council for violating the Code of Conduct during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Abhishek Sharma received a demerit point and a 25% match-fee fine after the Indian Premier League confirmed disciplinary action following their Thursday clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Abhishek returned to form in the game, scoring a quick 48 off 21 balls, including four sixes and four fours. While his performance impressed fans, his on-field behaviour drew criticism from officials. Although the IPL statement did not detail the exact incident, it confirmed that the opener accepted a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3, related to the use of audible obscenities during the match.
In its official statement, the Indian Premier League said: Abhishek Sharma, all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been penalised 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday. He accepted the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and agreed to the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. For Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee’s decision is considered final and binding.
As a result of this action, Sharma will forfeit one-fourth of his match earnings and now has a demerit point added to his record. While Level 1 offences are the least serious under the IPL’s disciplinary system, repeated violations could lead to tougher punishments, including possible suspensions.
